1 of the things i enjoy about our man Herriman & his creation is that he had a finely tuned ear for dialogue & dialect...for instance, if you pay close attention to Krazy Kat's speech patterns it becomes readily apparent that the cat talks with a New York Yiddish/English accent. can anyone else identify other speech regionalisms & accents in the cartoon?

i had an English teacher at RISD who was convinced that the early Popeye the sailor had a Yiddish accent. Can't recall if he was referring to the origianl comic or those fabulous old Fleischer cartoons or both.
